Amnesty apporte son aide aux peuples indiens du territoire de Raposa Serra do Sol dans l’état du Roraima.
L’ONG Nós Existimos, qui travaille pour la justice sociale dans cet état, a lancé une action ‘carte postale’ à laquelle nous nous associons. Le but est d’obtenir que le Président Lula ratifie le décret ministériel n° 820/98 qui délimite le territoire attribué aux 15.000 indiens des tributs Makuxi, Wapixana, Ingarikó, Taurepang et Patamona.
Seule la signature présidentielle manque (depuis cinq ans !) pour que le décret entre en vigueur et que ce territoire devienne officiellement une terre indigène.
En attendant les Indiens font face aux violences des mineurs, des bûcherons et de certaines unités de l’armée.
Paricipez à cette action en faveur des peuples indiens du Brésil en envoyant la lettre suivante au Président Lula :

The indigenous territory Raposa Serra do Sol is the ancestral home of the Makuxi, Wapixana, Ingarikó, Taurepang and Patamona Indians, totalling around 15,000 people. It was demarcated as a continuous territory by ministerial decree no. 820/98, and for five years only the President’s signature has been needed to ratify it as a legal indigenous territory. We know that anti-indigenous politicians, miners, loggers and sections of the Armed Forces are opposed to the ratification.
In 1993, Your Excellency came to the territory and saw the suffering of its indigenous peoples at close hand.
Today, the decision on the future of the indigenous peoples of the whole of Brazil is in your hands.
Please ratify Raposa Serra do Sol now !
