The remaining trade unionists named above have been released on bail. It is not clear if they have yet been charged with any offence.

Ebrahim Madadi and Yaghub Salimi were released on 18 March. Mansour Heyat Gheibi. Ebrahim Norouzi and Gholamreza Mirza’i were released the following day, as was Sattar Amini. Afshin Biharami was released on 20 March.

The head of the bus workers’ union, Mansour Ossanlu, whose arrest prompted the strike by the union’s members, is still in custody. (See UA 08/06, MDE 13/002/2006, 09 January 2006.)

Amnesty International will continue to monitor the situation, and take further campaigning action as necessary. No further action is requested from the UA network at present. Many thanks to all who sent appeals.
